Deam Lake Open Water Swim #10
September 17 @ 6:30 AM - 8:30 AM
**MUST BE A CURRENT LANDSHARKS MEMBER**
The Louisville Landsharks puts on swims at Deam Lake, 25 minutes from downtown Louisville.
(search for Deam Lake State Park Indiana for a map)
It’s a beautiful 194 acre lake that we are permitted to swim outside the designated swim area on the Sundays we announce from 6:30 to 8:30 am.
We swim across the lake (about 500 meters) that we mark with big round buoys so you can see where you are headed and helps you practice “orienting” for those that want an idea of what to expect on a triathlon course.
You do as little or much as you want at whatever pace.
For those that have attended before, welcome back.
For anyone new, if this is your first “open water” swim, feel free to swim inside the designated swim area as it’s close to 200 meters in length. Get used to the lake and if and or when you are comfortable, join the other members for a nice swim across the lake!
If you are new and comfortable, go for it! Take a lap across.
SAFETY: Anytime we have members outside the roped swim area, we provide kayak(ers) with radios to communicate with shore.
If you get tired, want to take a break or just meet a nice kayaker, just wave your arm or swim over near one and grab an end of the boat.
We’re all in this together, the only strangers are the friends we haven’t met yet. Everyone is there for the same reason, start the day with a nice swim with good, friendly people.
Super tentative? Just head over and check it out, you don’t have to swim if you don’t want to.
WE ALWAYS WELCOME VOLUNTEER KAYAKERS TO HELP MONITOR THE SWIM (KAYAK PROVIDED)
Rules:
1. Must be a current Landshark member. Being awesome isn’t free.
2. Stuff to bring: googles and a personal swim buoy (available on Amazon), swim cap from last year if you have it
3. Bring a big smile
The club provides swim caps, which must be worn whenever in the lake. If you have one from last year, great, please bring it.
If you need a spare cap, we’ll have them on hand.
If you need to borrow a swim buoy, the club has about a dozen to loan for the day.
Starts @ 6:30 – must be back inside the buoys at 8:30.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
